The Gold Eagle is the leading gold bullion coin in the United States and it tends to command a slightly higher premium than the Gold Maple Leaf when buying or selling. It is also 22 karat gold, making it more durable than the Maple Leaf. Both contain the same amount of gold by weight.

The major difference between the Gold Maples and the Gold Eagles is their purity. The Canadian Gold Maples is 99.999% pure and is considered as the purest form of gold, 24 carat. The gold doesn’t contain any added base metals to it and is virtually made of 100% gold from mines in Canada. The American Gold Eagle is 91.67% pure or 22 carat gold. In English standards it is traditionally referred to as Crown Gold. The purity of the American Gold was initially 90% and it was increased to meet the English standards.
The quality of Gold depends upon its purity. However, there Canadian Gold Maples is very soft since it is very pure. During the manufacturing process, some finger prints are left in the coin, which is unavoidable. This problem doesn’t exist in the Gold Eagles as it is hard enough due to the presence of base metals in it.
The Gold Maples can be used as a mere showcase coin. It is very precious and also prestigious due to its purity. The Gold Eagles is malleable, ductile and can be used to make ornaments. People who prefer to use gold as an ornament prefer to buy the Gold Eagles whereas people who buy for prestigious value or business purposes go for the Gold Maples.
Gold itself is a highly durable metal. Both the Gold Maples and Gold Eagles are highly durable, but the Gold Eagles is slightly better when it comes to the durability factor due to the presence of base metals in it.
Value of the gold depends on the market value of the gold on that particular day. This commodity is ever fluctuating and depends upon the market forces.

The Gold Maples are available at a lesser premium than the Gold Eagles because the RCM fixes the price of the Gold Maples in such a way that, it encourages the market sales. The RCM is more adaptable to the market situations than the US government and fixes the premium according to the current position in the market.
The Gold maples are available in various denominations such as 1/25 oz., 1/20 oz., 1/10 oz., 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz. and 1 oz. whereas the Gold Eagles are available only in four sizes such as 1/10 oz., 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz. and 1 oz.
